Ongoing: Written comments can be submitted concerning the County's proposed new regulations for Site Plan Review in unincorporated Boulder County, County docket DC-24-0003. These regulations affect all homeowners in the unincorporated County who might someday want to add space to their residences. Comments will be incorporated into the packet for the hearing by the three County Commissioners (date TBD).

March 19: Public hearing, Planning Commission, on Site Plan Review proposed regulations (see first entry above). A docket about mobile farm stands will also be considered at this hearing. Outcome: The Planning Commission unanimously recommended that the Site Plan Review proposed regulations be denied. About 15 members of the public spoke in opposition. The Commission unanimously recommended that the mobile farm stand regulations be approved. Next step for each of these is a hearing by the Boulder Board County Commissioners. Dates TBD.

March 19: Public input event for the update on the Boulder Valley Comprehensive Plan. Rural unincorporated areas are within the boundaries. Outcome: We attended this event. Turnout was extremely low (fewer than 10 residents).

March 20: Neighborhood meeting, Lafayette annexation & development proposal, 9776&9850 Arapahoe Road. Meeting will be at 2800 Dagny Way, Lafayette, 6 pm

March 26: Rescheduled from March 13. Hearing of the Colorado Energy & Carbon Management Commission (ECMC) regarding the Draco Well Pad (continuation from November 2024 hearings). Horizontal fracking from Weld County into Boulder County (and under many Erie homes) could occur if this advances.

April 1: Hearing of the Board of County Commissioners on the proposed equestrian center in rural Longmont on 73rd Street, docket LU-24-0017

April 1: Lafayette City Council Meeting, first technical consideration of the eastern "gateway" annexation to determine if it meets Colorado Statutory requirements for consideration. (This is not a vote on whether the annexation happens.)

April 12: Public input event for the update on the Boulder Valley Comprehensive Plan

May 6: Tentative date of the hearing by the Board of County Commissioners on the application for a subdivision at 63rd Street and Niwot Road, docket SD-23-0003. At the Boulder County Courthouse in Boulder, 1:30 PM.

Developments in Lafayette
Status:

Lafayette is considering a proposal to annex and develop 36 acres of privately owned County land at the southwest corner of Arapahoe Road and Hwy 287
-
The associated “The Range at Lafayette” development would bring 343 apartments, 110 townhomes, and a mixture of retail including a big-box store to the land
-
Another more recent annexation & development proposal is for 78 acres at the "eastern gateway" into Lafayette, at Baseline Road and N. 119th Street
-
And a third one has just arisen for 9776/9850 Arapahoe Road
-
Residents have organized against these annexations, with concerns about overburdening water resources and schools, traffic, and the loss of open space and rural character in Lafayette

Annexations are discretionary legislative actions and the Council can decide not to annex
Conditional Termination of Kanemoto Conservation Easement in Longmont / Possible 400+ Unit Development Proposal

A December 30 press release announced that KARES and the plaintiffs will continue their fight to overturn Boulder County's decision to conditionally terminate the Kanemoto Conservation Easement

The case now moves to the Colorado Court of Appeals

For the legal fees, donations are sought through the non-profit Conservation Easement Preservation Society (CEPS)

If annexed into Longmont, the proposal is to build over 400 units on the 40-acre property at Airport Road and the Diagonal Highway
May 6 County Commissioner Hearing on the 63rd Street Subdivision: Will it Live or Die?
Status:

The owners of ~40 acres at the southwest corner of 63rd Street and Niwot Road have proposed a subdivision.

The May 6 hearing of the Board of County Commissioners will decide if the application goes forward.

The community has organized against this proposal. They agree with the Planning Commission and County Planning staff that the application is inconsistent with several provisions of the Boulder County Comprehensive Plan and the Boulder County Land Use Code.
